We are very proud to announce that we will be launching a brand new Boys Ballet Program!  This is an audition-only program with a goal to raise awareness in our community about boys in ballet and make the class accessible to boys that have a desire to dance, build confidence and broaden their horizons.

 

What are the benefits?

There are many! The most notable benefits of ballet training include increased body awareness, coordination, discipline, and physical fitness while building a deep appreciation for arts, music, culture and history. Ballet training increases focus/attention span and helps build confidence and a strong sense of self. Dance lessons are life lessons, a high level of training and discipline will follow students for the rest of their lives and create coachable, employable, well rounded adults.

 

How much does it cost?

The program is 100% scholarship based, meaning that tuition is waived if your dancer is accepted into the program.

 

What is the Boys Ballet Program?

HDA's new Boys Ballet Program will begin with a beginning level one-hour ballet class once per week to focus on the basics of ballet and begin flexibility and strength training to create a foundation on which to build strong classical technique. This class will take place on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 starting Thursday, March 5th, 2020.  As the boys grow and develop, the instructors will add classes to their program.

 

Who are the instructors?

We are lucky enough to have three amazing male role models for our dancers, Mr. Patrick, Mr. Foye and Mr. Antonio. All three of our valued male dance instructors have had (or currently have) illustrious careers as professional dancers in the ballet realm and hold a combined 75 years of experience in the field. They have the experience and expertise necessary to create happy, healthy, strong and versatile male dancers. Our Boy's Ballet Program Director, Mr. Patrick Willison, will pave the way for these dancers with strong instruction in their new Thursday class.

 

What are the requirements?

We will be accepting six boys who must be at least seven years old or will be turning seven this year (2020), no former dance experience is required.  Candidates should demonstrate a good attention span, a desire to learn, and an ability to follow instruction.  There is not an age cap, but all dancers applying for the program should be at the beginner level with little to no experience.
